Understanding refugee experience

This session provides an overview of the refugee experience, the impact of trauma and the process of migrating to Australia.  The workshop also offers useful tools for anyone assisting or supporting people from a refugee background.

Date: Friday May 10th

Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm

Looking after the helper: Preventing vicarious traumatisation and burnout

This session identifies common issues for helpers. It includes practical ways to prevent and reduce emotional reactions and vicarious traumatisation and burnout when working with clients who have experienced trauma.

Fundamentals of working cross culturally

This session looks at the cultural assumptions which can be built into service delivery and suggests practical ways to make services more inclusive. These interactive exercises, case studies and factsheets will help you think about service delivery in a different way.

Communicating effectively with clients from diverse language backgrounds: Using Interpreters

This is an interactive workshop to support and strengthen good communication skills when working with clients from diverse language backgrounds. It is also a practical workshop on how to use interpreters in the workplace.
